Sean Mahony is a dynamic
musician. |
Born
into a musical family, it
was only natural to pick up
an instrument and join in.
Sean went further; he picked
up a pen. His first
compositions were performed
when he was only five years
old. He picked up the piano
and trombone. He began
performing while still a
student at New York's
prestigious High School of
Music and Art.

Sean's performances range
from opera and Broadway to
swing, contemporary and
traditional. One of his
favorite has been tenor
soloist at several Irish
venues. These include for
the past ten years, the
annual Irish-American Labor
Coalition dinner. He
performed his own cabaret
show called The Songs I
Love and Some I Wrote at
the celebrated Pen and Brush
gallery in New York's
Greenwich Village.

John Wilson
of the New York
Times has called
Sean's trombone
sound "burly
toned" when he
played with
Valerie Capers,
the jazz
pianist/educator.
Audiences have
admired his
original swing
songs Rainbow
Room Shuffle, I
Love People (I
Love to See Them
Dance), and
Strollin' in New
York, which are
featured on his
CD, "Strollin'
In New York." |
Credentials
Sean began to "earn his
chops," as jazz colleagues
might say, at New York's
famed High School of Music
and Art. He combined early
training in the Dalcrose
Eurhythmics techniques,
with traditional schooling,
into a unique musicality
that he has brought to
audiences. He studied
trombone with the eminent
"old man," Emory Remington
at the Eastman School of
Music. In 1987 Sean earned a
Master's degree from
Juilliard School of Music.
He has performed, and
recorded, with the New York
Philharmonic, under the
batons of Pierre Boulez and
others, rendering the music
of Richard Strauss and
Edgard Varèse.
